Irked over the provisions of the new National Mineral Policy, Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik on Friday charged the Centre of violating federal spirit by not taking states views and said five mineral-rich states will meet on Saturday at New Delhi to work out a strategy.

While the states called for fixation of royalty on ad valorem basis, the new policy did not change the prevailing method thus causing heavy revenue loss to state governments, he said here before leaving for New Delhi for meeting. The Centre have clearly violated the federal tradition of our democracy by not taking views of state governments before formulating the national policy, the chief minister accused.

The....five mineral rich states will decide their future course of action on the NMP, he said. Besides him, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, MP, Rajasthan and a senior minister from Jharkhand.
