A year ends, another begins. And when its an Annus Horribilis thats ending, as many are accusing 2002 of having been, its all the more reason to rejoice and party the year away. Heres our list of whats happening where and when.

DELHI
InterContinental Parkroyal
Live performances by popular artists and an international band will set the adrenaline pumping here. At the Poolside Lawns, Harbhajan Mann will perform as you enjoy limitless snacks, a lavish buffet and free-flowing Scotch. Entry: Rs 9,000 per couple. If you wish to stay the night here, you pay Rs 10,999. You pay Rs 1,500 extra for children below 15 years. And if youre on your own, Rs 4,500.

At Float, the band, Melt, and DJ Dhruv will keep your feet tapping all night, and some innovative snacks will keep your inner person happy. Entry fee is Rs 8,000 per couple, Rs 10,999 for a nights stay and Rs 4,500 for a single person.

The Lounge and Bar will see an endless flow of Scotch and other beverages plus a variety of snacks. Rs 4,000 per couple, and Rs 2,750 for a single person.

At Empress Of China, diehard romantics can enjoy a candlelight dinner in an exquisite Oriental ambience, further enhanced by Chef Thomas culinary offerings. Rs 1,850 per person. On New Year morning, Blooms hosts a Champagne Brunch. Rs 750 plus taxes per person.

The Park
Enjoy a special buffet dinner at the Portico on New Years Eve, featuring roast turkey with cranberry sauce, roast suckling pig with apple sauce and plum pudding with brandy sauce.

Entertainment will be in the form of magic tricks at each table. Rs 650 per head, Rs 1,200 per couple. If you wish to stay overnight, the package for couples costs Rs 4,995; this includes room tariff plus brunch the morning after.

Hyatt Regency
At the Cafe, enjoy a grand buffet with live stations and turkey carving on New Years Eve. Enjoy your meal with the most happening band in town, Cavite Trio, priced at Rs 1,750 per person. On New Years Day, enjoy an early morning snack buffet for Rs 400 plus taxes per person or laze in bed and try a late New Years Day brunch for Rs 675 plus taxes per person.

La Piazza is in a intimate and mystical mood on New Years Eve. Bonnie and Rhea will add to the ambience with their music. In addition, theres a grand dessert buffet and lucky raffle draw in the lobby. Rs 3,750 per person, with complimentary entry to Djinns with one drink coupon.

Entry permitted only to couples above 25. On New Years Day, try the late morning brunch with a live carving station and a performance by Bonnie and Rhea for Rs 1,100 plus taxes per person.

TKS will feature a grand Mongolian barbecue. The three course dinner will be followed by the dessert buffet in the lobby and lucky raffle draw. Rs 3,500 per person, with complimentary entry to Djinns with one drink coupon. Entry permitted only to couples above 25 years. Brunch on New Years Day for Rs 1,250 plus taxes per person.

Shake your legs at Djinns with unlimited domestic liquor and a set menu spread and watch a brand new band, Solid Gold, perform.

Taj Palace
At the Orient Express, American jazz queen Krista Kellner will regale you with heart warming numbers. A European buffet, an a la carte menu and drinks galore here. On New Years Eve, for Rs 13,999 per couple, you can enjoy a pick up and drop in a Mercedes Benz, accommodation for a night and a champagne breakfast the next morning. Just the dinner is Rs 9,999 per couple.

At the Tea House Of The August Moon, enjoy select drinks on New Years Eve for Rs 2,700 per person, along with a live band and a Sichuan buffet menu. At My Kind Of Place, pay Rs 5,000 per couple and relive memories of Ali Baba And The 40 Thieves.

Masala Art features a table hopping fortune teller, a live fusion band, DJs and a dance floor. Rs 3,995 per person. At Banquets, dance, sing, wine and dine with Snowhite And The Seven Dwarfs for Rs 2,700 per person.

Le Meridien
Sing Mamma Mia here, and you lead the celebrations. On New Years Eve, witness the Danish delights of Lia and Jacque, two blue-eyed blondes who will warm the night at Atrium. A Latin group called Oba Oba will also perform. Our own desi pop hero, Sukhwindara Singh, will render favourites such as Chaiya Chaiya and Kambakht Ishq. Rs 7,000 per couple.

The Oberoi
The Palms takes you into the New Year with a special buffet and keyboard music by Alex. Fiery Indian fare and sinful desserts are promised for Rs 1,100 plus taxes per person. At La Rochelle and Wine Bar, you can enjoy New Years Eve in a romantic setting.

A five-course, sit-down dinner, a glass of champagne and a dance floor await you for Rs 3,500 plus taxes per head. On New Years Day, theres a Continental brunch with complimentary wine and Bloody Marys for Rs 1,500 plus taxes per head.

Kandahar offers a passage to India on New Years Eve with live ghazals and traditional delicacies for Rs 2,000 plus taxes per person. Enter the Club Bar for Rs 1,500 plus taxes per head on New Years Eve. Complimentary snacks and a drink are part of the offer. Dance till youre worn out at the Connaught on New Years Eve or enjoy a dinner with deep red candles at Taipan for Rs 3,000 plus taxes per person. On New Years Day, theres a special dim sum brunch for Rs 850 plus taxes per person here.

Radisson Hotel
NYC, the fun cafe here, has been transformed into Delhi Junction for New Years Eve with a tea stall, train bogey, soft drinks trolley, posters depicting the history of the Railways and movie posters like those displayed at railway stations. The staff will be dressed like coolies (porters) in red shirt, white pajamas, Nehru caps and jootis. The hostess will be dressed like a ticket collector, in black coat and white shirt. The extensive buffet is priced at Rs 1,800 per person with unlimited liquor (select brands).

You can have a buffet dinner at Italiannis with live music and unlimited sparkling wine. Rs 2,900 per person. Superstars and Ozone will wear a sporty look, with the 1960s theme, Men In Blue. Rs 2,300 per person, includes Indian open bar (select brands).

All guests will be invited to a complimentary party with the Indian cricket team when they come back from New Zealand in January. At the Poolside, Shibani Kashyap will have guests swinging to her peppy numbers. Dinner will be a mix of Indian, Continental and Italian dishes. Rs 3,333 per person, with open bar (select brands).

Grand Hotel
A sumptuous buffet and a glass of sparkling wine, live band and dance floor come for Rs 1,500 plus taxes per adult, Rs 1,000 plus taxes per child. The midnight buffet on New Years Day will offer finger food, sandwiches, desserts and soft beverages for Rs 500 plus taxes.

At Brix, theres a special New Years Eve dinner (Rs 2,003 plus taxes per adult, Rs 1,000 plus taxes per child). On New Years Day, enjoy a Champagne Brunch for Rs 1,000 plus taxes per person. Caraway will have Indipop divas performing on New Years Eve as you enjoy a special menu with unlimited drinks on select brands (Rs 2,000 plus taxes per adult, Rs 1,000 plus taxes per child). At the Whiskey Bar, drink all you can on New Years Eve and enjoy a livewire DJ and dance floor (Rs 1,500 plus taxes per head).

MUMBAI
Hyatt Regency
Four-course menu, including appetiser, soup, main course and dessert with sparkling wine or champagne on each table (included in the price) along with a special beverage and wine list is on offer at Stax on New Years Eve. There will also be a live performance by international band, Mondo Mambo. Rs 3,000 per head. Glasshouse offers an assorted kebab platter and pizzas on the table as starters with a special menu and an elaborate dessert selection and unlimited domestic bar for Rs 1,750 per head.

The Taj Mahal Hotel
The Starboard will see the LA Jazz duo team up with a DJ to keep the spirits up, accompanied by a live barbeque display and a select bar (Rs 2,750 per person). The Souk, Tajs new Eastern Mediterranean rooftop rendezvous offers a special menu at Rs 4,950 per person, while Golden Dragon (also Rs 4,950 per person) will have special music and a dancing area, too. Theres a discount for those who wish to dine early and continue to celebrate elsewhere. If a booking is made for 7 pm and the table released by 9 pm, it will earn you a special 50 per cent off.

Tajs Zodiac Grill has a vast five-course menu (Rs 7,950 per person) designed by no less than Hemant Oberoi to go with classic Moet et Chandon. Polish pianist Monika Rosca will provide the musical accompaniment. Insomnia, Sidewok and the new restaurant, Masala Kraft, also have special menus and live entertainment lined up for the night, costing between Rs 1,950 and Rs 4,950 per person.

The Renaissance
Lake View Cafe gives you an indoor option in The Last Waltz of 2002 (Rs 1,699 per person) and a Poolside Splash (Rs 2,249 per person) if youd rather be outdoors on New Year Eve. Australian band Soul Fire is at hand to provide the music. Juggling bartenders and great food complete the experience.

Nawab Saheb offers the year a Shahi Farewell with the legendary hospitality and cuisine associated with the Nawab culture. Its menu (Rs 1,999 per person) is designed by Jiggs Kalra, and live bhangra and gidda add colour to the festivities, never mind that they do not go with the theme! The Renaissance Nightclub wants you to party away until the morning, and costs Rs 500 per person for the food. Beverages and drinks will cost extra. And yes, the hotel offers adults the service of a kids room with babysitters should they wish to party alone.

The Oberoi Hotel
On December 31, the Club Zone at the Regal room becomes a trendy discotheque, thanks to pulsating music, giant screens, and a rock-stadium ambience. Food and spirits flow freely (Rs 2,500 per person). The Palms is hosting a Bollywood night, with Stylebhais, lights and action. There is a buffet, apart from great snacks and drinks. (Rs 1,800 per adult, Rs 900 per child).

India Jones will have an Oriental night theme. Star Glow, the band at Opium Den, plays popular hits, while chef Manish creates an exotic dinner (Rs 3,000).

An interesting Godfather 2003 is scheduled at The Rotisserie, naturally all Italian. A five-course Italian menu, live music and red wine makes it a good place to spend the night (Rs 3,500 per person).

Frangipani will prepare an a la carte menu and an exquisite stage presentation to go with New Year music and wine (Rs 1,500 per person), while Kandahar will have live ghazals and popular Hindi songs in keeping with the Indian-style celebrations (Rs 2,250).

JW Marriott
Welcome to Las Vegas, albeit inside this new suburban hotel in Mumbai. Marriotts entire food and beverage area is converted into a party zone on the night of December 31. Showgirls, fireworks, food and drink rule.

Saffron gets into casino mode with Roulette tables and Black Jack counters, while Spices, the hotels Thai and Japanese restaurant, becomes a South East Asian food street.

Lotus Cafe is the dancing area, with DJs Ryan Beck and Aqeel, and Enigma also features a live band playing hip music. A variety of cuisines and unlimited Indian liquor, wine and beer are available at an all-inclusive price.

Le Royal Meridien
When the Mystique dancers conclude their performance at Flames on December 30, comes the special New Year eve package from LRM. For instance, the Rio Carnival of Mardi Gras. Jugglers, clowns, food and fireworks, all regale visitors on December 31, as do dancers from London, DJs Amit and Aroon, and a seven-piece band, Tequila.

The Lounge Bar (Rs 2,750 per person) will show off the bellydancer from Lebanon, Cinderella, and its Mezze cuisine with an array of drinks. Cinderella comes with the entire paraphernaliapumpkin carriage, glass slipper and all.

La Brasserie has a Treasure Island theme (Rs 1,250 per adult, Rs 650 per child). Long John Silver will receive you with his loyal eagle and make the children pirates for the night. The party continues into the morning as does the champagne and smoked salmon.

Imperial China showcases a Chinese mythological tale (Rs 2,750 per person). The protagonist is Chinese Princess Vasum, who tasted the forbidden fruit and opened herself to sinful and delicious temptations. The character plays anchor for the evening, backed up by live band Juke Box, as Chef Wei from Shanghai creates his magical stir-fries.

Hotel Rodas
The hotels Black Magic Woman Night (Rs 300 per couple) on December 29 will have DJs Shon and Amit paying tribute to retro music. On December 31, the Final Countdown Night (Rs 3,000 per couple) happens at Zwigs. Oddly though, the decor is designed like a beach party in the snow, complete with coconut trees and falling snow.

Parabola is hosting a gypsy theme party (Rs 1,800 per couple) complete with crystal balls and tarot card readers who will predict your fortunes for 2003. Rodass Far East becomes Chinatown on New Years Eve where dragons and martial artistes herald in the new year (Rs 2,400 per couple).

KOLKATA
The Park
Kama continues with the quest for lust with international Kamasutra divas and belly dancers. At Zen, authentic Thai festive fare goes on till New Years Day. You can party all night at Someplace Else. Blues and rock music and DJ Austin promise a fun-filled celebration here.

Hyatt Regency
On New Years Eve, Waterside Cafe will have a band playing popular western music. Guchhi will feature ghazals by Dhruvjitji Bhattacharya and a set menu; Rs 1,400 per person from 7 pm to 9 pm and Rs 1,900 per person 9.30 pm onwards. The Bar offers its guests their favourite drinks, cocktails, choice of beers, single malts, original Cuban cigars and a special menu. The Regency Ballroom will also have a lavish dinner, dancing, music, exotic entertainment and a late bar to usher in the New Year with a bang. Rs 2,000 per head.

Oberoi Grand
Chowringhee Barwill feature a live band performance with celebrities on New Years Eve. Cover charge Rs 1,000 per person; special offer on select beverage brands. La Terrasse will serve a world cuisine buffet till midnight (Rs 900 per person). A snacks buffet will start 30 minutes after midnight (Rs 500 per person). Gharana is preparing for a Punjabi theme night, with live entertainment by Amrik Singh and his troupe. Rs 1,600 per person from 7.30 to 9.30 pm; Rs 2,003 per person 9.30 pm onwards (includes a complimentary glass of beer).

Baan Thai offers a special set menu for dinner with a complimentary glass of wine for Rs 1,200 per person (vegetarian) and Rs 1,400 per person (non-vegetarian). You can have fun Caribbean style at the Poolside with Don Seagal and his troupe. The barbecue buffet with a complimentary bottle of champagne per table costs Rs 2,500 per person.

Taj Bengal
Enjoy a dance party on New Years Eve at Incognito with a leading model from Mumbai, Mahi of Tu Tu Wahi fame. You can drink as much as you want to for Rs 1,500 per person. Banquets hosts a gala dinner at Crystal featuring Indian pop icons Vipin Aneja and Vandy. At the Hub, there will be a midnight buffet, while Barbeque offers fun with famous belly dancer Salomi.

CHENNAI
Taj Connemara
Fun galore here. At the Ballroom, you are assured of the Arabian Nights experience with dance performance by an international dance artist on the New Year eve. Then there is the New Year bash at the Poolside, while the Oakshott Bar offers the liquor buffet with Wild West theme. At the Raintree restaurant, you are sure to be surprised with a lot of theme entertainment.

Taj Fishermans Cove
Not much, it may sound as it has already started celebrating since December with theme buffets at Seagull. On the New Year eve, you can enjoy a special buffet here with a live band performing to entertain you.
