Indias largest thermal power generator NTPCs net profit rose 5% in the third quarter despite a decline in its net sales. The company reported net profit of Rs 2,364 crore against Rs 2,250 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal.

NTPC crossed the 31,000 mw-mark of installed power generation on Friday by commissioning the first 490 mw unit of the under-construction Dadri power project. The unit has reached the full load, NTPC chairman RS Sharma told reporters here. The project was envisaged by NTPC to meet additional electricity requirement of the national capital during the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

The companys total income declined 0.8% to Rs. 11183.73 crore because of reduction in the fuel cost because of increased availability natural gas for its power plants from the domestic sources. The central utility has been using costly naphtha to meet gas shortage for its power plants. NTPCs EPS increased to Rs. 2.87 in the latest quarter from Rs. 2.73 in the same period of the previous year.
