Nripendra Misra, a 1967-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer has been appointed as the principal secretary to ‘Prime Minister’ Narendra Modi. Misra retired as the chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in March 2009. Prior to that he was secretary department of telecommunications.
Asked how would he contribute in his new assignment, Misra told FE, ?My emphasis would be on implementation. All the bottlenecks in the road to growth and development should be unchained and I would work towards that?.
Misra is known to be a meticulous officer. After he demitted office as the Trai chairman he’s been associated with Public Interest Foundation and frequently writes columns on issues of governance and telecom policy.
In his last days at the Trai, Misra had a running battle with the then telecom minister A Raja when he wrote several letters to the DoT that his 2007 recommendations were being cherry-picked rather than being implemented in its entirety.
Misra holds a masters degree in Public Administration from the Harvard University.
