Stupendous deals are being offered this festive season by gadget-makers online and the strategies adopted are indeed unique, some like Amazon's are spectacular, just to get one-up on rivals like Flipkart and Snapdeal.

Flipkart's Big Billion Day was a prime example of how to bring down a rival - at least try to.

Flipkart, the e-commerce major, branded October 6 as the Big Billion Day sale. Snapdeal, another e-commerce major, ran a campaign on the very day teasing Flipkarts Big Billion Day, saying: For others its a big day. For us, today is no different.

US online retailer's Indian arm, Amazon, not to be left behind, went ahead and reportedly bought the bigbillionday.com domain, so that anyone who typed Big Billion Day on a search engine got directed to Amazons India homepage!

In fact, a Facebook joke doing the rounds goes something like this: The most amazon thing about flipkart is that before you could, somebody else snaps the deal.
