No spectrum fee for community radio

In order to create an enabling environment for community radio services (CRS), the government on Friday said it has decided to waive off spectrum fee for such services. The ministry of communications and IT has decided to waive off spectrum fee for CRS, an official statement said. Telecom minister Kapil Sibal has asked Department of Telecom (DoT) to evolve detailed guidelines by Oct 12 to ensure that the spectrum is optimally used and the channels use these airwaves only to inform and empower the common man, the statement added.
