Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Tuesday that no power in this world could ever separate Mumbai from Maharashtra. This came a day after Raj Thackeray, in an interview to The Indian Express, had spoken of alleged designs by the Modi government to split the capital from the state, and amid similar allegations by several other parties.

Mumbai is integral to Maharashtra, Modi announced at a rally at Sindkheda in Dhule. Congress and NCP leaders are spreading a new lie, that Mumbai will be separated from Maharashtra. I can assure you that as long as I am in Delhi, no power in the world can split Maharashtra.

He went on: Mumbai will always be in Maharashtra, for there cannot be a Maharashtra without Mumbai. Nor can we can ever think of an India without Maharashtra... Can anyone born in this country think of splitting the land of Shivaji

In a series of public rallies in north Maharashtra and Vidarbha, Modi urging the people to rid the state of Congress and NCP rule. In Nagpur, he brought up the agrarian crisis and accused the Congress-NCP government of turning a blind eye to the problems of the farmers, which drove them to commit suicides. He urged the people to punish the murderers whose wrong policies and neglect had brought the farmers to this plight.

Press the lotus button on October 15 and make it the liberation day for the state from 15 years of Congress misrule, he said.

When the BJP government comes to power, he promised, we will introduce policies to address the problems of cotton cultivators and onion growers. Farmers are suffering because of the Congress and NCPs policies. Modi skipped the issue of statehood for Vidarbha in Nagpur.

At Erandol in Jalgaon, Modi said the time had come to wash away the sins of 15 years. October 15 is the festival of washing away the sins of the 15 years of Congress-NCP governments, to bring an end to 15 years of corruption and destruction, he said.

Governments in Maharashtra did not spare anything and anybody from corruption. They snatched away food from the platters of children who were supposed to get it under the midday meal scheme, they left farms thirsty and took away electricity meant for farmers, he said.
