Mr Desai takes over from the current president, Mahesh Murthy. Speaking after his election, Mr Desai said that he would work towards integrating the Mumbai chapter with its other counterparts in Asia, to facilitate exchange of ideas.
TiE is all about mentoring entrepreneurs, turning job seekers into job creators. TiE has become a global force now - it is no longer confined only to the Indian ethnic entrepreneurs and VCs. Entrepreneurs from Asian countries like China and Pakistan too are associating themselves with TiE. Transcending IT, the company has also started causing ripples in other sectors such as media, entertainment and retailing. As the TiE president, I would like to focus on issues of digital divide, he said.
Mr Desai also said that entrepreneurship today should not be restricted to the Indian context, but should be viewed globally. Business should contribute towards improving the quality of life of the people by enhancing job opportunities and making civic amenities available to them, he said.
