Nifty closes above 3,000

The benchmark Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange may be within sniffing distance of the 10K mark, but the broader S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange has managed to close above the 3,000-mark for the first time ever.

On Monday, the index closed at 3,001.10, gaining 26.60 points. The Sensex, on the other hand, gained 70.86 points to end at 9,919.89, another all time high. Of the 30 Sensex stocks, 22 ended in the positive.

However, the market breadth remained negative once again with 1,609 stocks losing ground on BSE, as against gainers at 911. 55 stocks ended the day on a flat note.

Kashyap Pujara, associate VP, Sushil Finance Consultants Ltd, said, FIIs may have turned net sellers, but the overall picture is still looking good.

FIIs, who have resumed buying lately, turned net sellers in the cash market at Rs 347.80 crore on Monday. In the F&O segment, they were net buyers at Rs 8.63 crore. While the turnover was higher on BSE at Rs 3,785.54 crore, it was lower on NSE at Rs 6,559.98 crore.
