Companies operating in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) space should correctly identify the skill sets needed for a certain job profile, so as to get the right talent for a given position. This was one of the highlights at a corporate presentation on Excellence in BPO hosted at the SP Jain Institute of Management Studies and Research in Mumbai.

Dwelling on this subject, Tracmail COO Arjun Vaznaik said: Given the fact that choosing the right person for the right job is becoming more critical in the industry, enterprises need to have an enhanced focus on people profiling and mapping.

There were also certain pitfalls in HR Management. Organisations in this business vertical get into overselling their job profiles thereby leading to a gap between expectation and reality for the candidate who walks into a given position, explained Mr Vaznaik.

According to the speakers, there is also a major culture challenge that the teams working in these businesses confront. This arises mainly because recruitments in this sector gets initiated due to employee referrals. And such a recruitment practice leads to creation of teams who come from a similar background and value systems thereby leading to polarisation.

According to the professionals, the career growth in this sector happens more by being multi-skilled in job delivery.

Elaborating on this theme, Wipro Spectramind Ltd manager Gopal Ranjan said: Quality is really about attitude and discipline. And corporates need to create a mindset of continuous improvement amongst professionals along with instilling discipline to meet customer commitments.

Finally it is all about understanding how to deliver benchmarks and create a sense of ownership and pride amongst the employees, summed up Mr Ranjan.
