A National Democratic Alliance (NDA) delegation submitted a petition before President APJ Abdul Kalam on Monday demanding the recall of Bihar governor Buta Singh over the bureaucratic reshuffle controversy.

Accusing the governor of taking the decision to transfer 17 police officials with an eye on the upcoming elections, the Opposition accused Mr Singh of acting at the behest of railway minister Lalu Prasad.

Bihar BJP president Susheel Kumar Modi alleged that the governor took the decision without consulting chief secretary GS Kang, who proceeded on leave in protest. Even the director-general of police was unaware of the transfers, Mr Modi said.

Mr Modi further alleged that the governors sons, Sweety and Lovely, were directly involved in the transfers. While Buta Singh was earlier the puppet of Ram Vilas Paswan, after the imposition of the Presidents Rule, he had become the puppet of Lalu Prasad, Mr Modi said.

The NDA delegation included BJP president LK Advani, NDA convenor George Fernandes, NDAs chief ministerial candidate for Bihar Nitish Kumar, JD-U leader Sharad Yadav and senior BJP leaders like Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj, VK Malhotra, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Susheel Kumar Modi.
