Nalco Q3 net up 10% at Rs 131 cr

The National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has posted a net profit of R131 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2013, up 10% from the R119 crore earned in the same quarter last year.

The Nalco board, in a meeting on Wednesday, took note of the financial results for the third quarter of the financial year 2013-14.

In the third quarter of 2013-14, alumina hydrate production was 4.66 lakh tonne, up 17.4% from the 3.97 lakh tonne in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Metal production in the third quarter of this fiscal fell to 0.79 lakh tonne against 1 lakh tonne in the same quarter of the previous year. Power generation was 1,249 MU in the quarter compared to 1,525 MU in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

Net sales for the nine months ended December 2013 work out to R470 crore,up 35% from the corresponding figure of R347 crore for the previous fiscal. On the production front, during the first nine months, NALCO produced 14.26 lakh tonne of alumina hydrate, 12.2% higher than the 12.70 lakh tonne last year. However, metal production was 2.38 lakh tonne against 3.05 lakh tonne in the comparable nine months of the last fiscal. Power generation was 3,760 MU against 4,582 MU in the same period last year.
