Naidu Convenes General Body Meet On Thursday

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has convened the general body meeting on November 13 to take stock of the political situation in the state.

"We are expecting over 7,000 party functionaries to participate in the November 13 meeting," a senior party leader told FE.

According to the TDP source, the meeting is likely to adopt a one-line resolution on the dissolution of the state assembly while authorizing the party president to take the final decision at the appropriate time.

The general body meeting will be held between 3 pm and 6 pm at the Exhibition Ground at Hyderabad, party sources said. Mr Naidu has decided to call for the general body meeting to elicit the opinion of party functionaries before taking a final decision on advancing the assembly polls in the state. As per the original schedule, the elections for the state assembly are to take place after September 2004.

According to the party sources, the TDP supremo is expected to recommend dissolution of the state assembly on November 15 or 17 and opt for early polls before February 2004. There can be one more cabinet briefing before to clear some more welfare schemes, the sources said.
