Dr. D.V. Deshpande, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Haryana Regional Office informed here today that the project is aimed at utilization of the created irrigation infrastructure by constructing new channels and rehabilitation, remodelling of existing channels which were constructed or lined 25-40 years back and were badly damaged because of continuous use, internal silt clearance and heavy floods in the past.
The project envisages to create an irrigation potential of 1.5 lakh hectare and generate non-recurring employment of 30.15 lakh man days apart from recurring employment of 7810 jobs per year. Further, the project will create assured irrigation facilities and bring about considerable changes in cropping pattern, farm income, land prices and other social conditions.
With this sanction, the cumulative RIDF assistance sanctioned to the Haryana State Government under RIDF has reached Rs 4490.61 crore involving 3518 projects under various sectors like irrigation, rural connectivity, water supply, anganwadis, girls toilet blocks, veterinary hospitals, dispensaries etc. since inception of RIDF in 1995-96, and an amount of Rs 3124.29 crore has been disbursed these against till date.
Dr. Deshpande said that NABARD has released support in Haryana State under Producer Organisation Development Fund (PODF) to a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO). The release of Rs 10 lakh has been made to Karnal Vegetable Producer Co. Ltd., a FPO, registered as a Company with about 700 farmers as members of Karnal district who are engaged in vegetable production.
This first instalment of Rs 14.00 lakh sanctioned to this FPO is for setting up of the Agro Service Centre which would make available agricultural implements like laser land leveller, sowing machines, tractor etc. to the farmers on custom hiring basis. It may be mentioned that the Government of India has entrusted NABARD to facilitate promotion of 2000 Producers Organizations in the next two years in the entire country.
He said that a Post Harvest Management Centre is being planned for this FPO for ensuring better quality of vegetables and more remunerative prices to the farmers. It is learnt that the Haryana State Horticulture Department has taken initiative to set up 14 FPOs in the state in different districts. NABARD is planning for greater engagement with these FPOs in near future.
