The market for new passenger cars in Europe was a modest 2.4 % up, or 14,61,859 units in June, carried by the effects of fleet renewal schemes in more than 10 EU member states. In June last year, the market was down 7.9% compared to the same period the previous year. Cumulative figures for the first half of 2009 show an 11% drop in European new car registrations compared to the same period in 2008, with a total of 74,25,762 new cars registered compared to 83,46,828 the year before.
