State-run MMTC has invited bids for sale of 10,600 tonnes of imported yellow peas in the domestic market.
Bids will close on July 6 and the decision on the tender will be taken on July 8, the company said on its website.
MMTC said that it will offer 9,000 tonnes of yellow peas sourced from Canada and the rest from the US. The minimum bid quantity will be 1,000 tonnes.
The offered pulses will be from 2008 crop year, it said.
India imports pulses as production is lower than the demand. According to the government’s third advance estimates, pulses production has been revised downward to 14.18 million tonnes from 14.25 million tonnes in the second advance estimates.
Pulses output stood at 14.76 million tonnes in 2007-08 season.
