Speaking at a meet organized by the CII Delhi Annual Session titled Brand Delhi MD of Delhi Metro, on Wednesday, E Sreedharan said that his vision of Delhi 2020 envisaged a metro station within 500 metres of ones home along with his other priorities that include upgrading the railway network of Delhi including the ring railway, and expanding the role of IRBT and cleaning of the Yamuna.
Chief secretary of Delhi S Regunathan who was the chief guest at the meet emphasized on the human aspect. To have a true Brand Delhi, we need a caring, compassionate and disciplined Delhi, he added.
Quoting from his Melbourne experience, he said that the most important factor that made the Melbourne Games a success was the huge numbers of volunteers, involvement of senior citizens and discipline. Earlier, chairman CII Delhi State Council AK Kaul said that it was high time that Delhi started a proactive process of branding, if it wants to be on the international mindmap.
Quoting excerpts from a short survey that CII Delhi had conducted, he said that the people loved Delhis accepting culture and saw it as a city that had something for everybody. But sadly, it was a city without natives. It was a city where the citizens do not consider it as home, and unless that happens, Delhis growth will be hindered. An on spot poll revealed that 75% audience thought that Delhis best feature was its improved Metro and flyovers; almost 80% said that law & order needs to be improved and almost unanimously,they all said they thought Delhi would be well prepared to host the Commonwealth Games!
