Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India is looking at achieving double-digit growth in 2010 against a 10% de-growth in 2009. The company hopes that seven new launches over the last four weeks or so (including in the Auto Expo) and a few more in the coming months will drive the growth this year, enabling it to regain leadership in the low-level luxury segment and strengthen its market leadership in the premium luxury segment, said Debashish Mitra, director (sales & marketing), Mercedes-Benz India.

Speaking to FE here on Thursday on the sidelines of launching two new cars--S 350L and S 350 CDI L Blue Efficiency, he said: "We hope the new launches under E and S classes and GL will certainly drive the growth in the current year. We also will be launching a few more variants in the next few months to give customers the most luxurious line-up to choose from across the series."

We reported a 10% de-growth in 2009 at 3,250 units because of the complete phase out of older E-class cars in July and S-class variants by the end of 2009. E-class alone was contributing 40% of our sales and with phasing out of the older versions, we had to report de-growth in 2009. But despite recession, slowdown and E-class phase out, Mercedes could end 2009 with better numbers, he added.
