Maya re-elected as BSP president

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati was on Thursday re-elected as national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party for a third consecutive term.

Fifty three-year-old Mayawati was unanimously elected on the concluding day of the partys two-day national convention here. Mayawati, elected party chief for the first time in 2003, was re-elected in 2006. She became a Lok Sabha member in 1989 and took over the reins of the state in 1995. She headed the government again in 1997 and 2002. In 2007 she became the chief minister for the fourth time. During the convention,the party decided to launch a nation-wide agitation against anti-people policies of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
