Sharing more information with FE, chief general manager (sales), Maruti-Suzuki India Ltd, RS Kalsi said, "There was a long waiting list for SX4 and Swift besides other models. To meet this growing demand, the capacity of Manesar plant will be increased. However, Maruti will spend about Rs 9,000 crore in the year 2009-2010 in expanding the production capacity, research and development in the country."
In a move to strengthen its export figures, the car-maker will take up export units from 50,000 to 2, 00,000 by 2010. Currently, Maruti is mainly exporting to European, South African and neighboring countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. Kalsi was in the city on Thursday to launch its A3 entry level car Swift Dzire. The car major which has 58% market share in the North, has already secured 120 bookings for Swift Dzire from Chandigarh alone. However, Kalsi refused to comment on the sale target for Swift Dzire in the northern region.
