Thanks to new guidelines (?New ICAI norms could expose India Inc closet?, Mar 31), companies will not be able to hide derivative losses. Big corporates in commodity-related businesses take huge exposures in derivatives markets which at times result in huge losses. Hopefully, the new accounting standards will ensure greater financial transparency.

Violence begets…
The Supreme Court is quite right in observing that giving weapons to civilians to fight Naxalism is illegal. The apex court?s verdict was in reference to Salwa Judum, the controversial people?s militia backed by the Chhattisgarh government. Providing arms to civilians in large numbers to fight militancy will only multiply violence. While fighting terrorism, let us not become terrorists ourselves.
