A letter has been received... through an officer of the house to the deputy speaker, the honourable member concerned has tendered her resignation. It is not a proper letter of resignation. It was not submitted in a proper form and I am not treating it as a letter of resignation, he said.
Earlier in the day, Ms Banerjee told reporters that she had submitted her resignation, adding that her demand for an adjournment motion was rejected. If I am not allowed to raise peoples issues then there is no point in me being a member of the House, she said. I will not withdraw my resignation, she asserted.
Ms Banerjees action comes a few months ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal where her party is a traditional opponent of the ruling Left Front.
