Major Petro, Chem Firms Bag ICMA National Awards

Reliance Industries, Haldia Petrochemicals, Gharda Chemicals, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) are among the winners of the Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association (ICMA) annual national awards for the year 2002-03. The awards will be presented to winners at a Special Function being organised in the next month.

Haldia Petrochemicals and Reliance Industries Ltd both have bagged ICMAs award for excellence in management of health, safety, and environment.

Gharda Chemicals Ltd has won the Acharya PC Ray Award for the year 2002-03. The Award is conferred for development of indigenous technology and commercialisation of polyester ether ketone (PEEK), a high performance specialty engineering plastics. Gharda Chemicals is the only second company to manufacture and commercialise PEEK in the world. The company has also obtained UK Process Patent for this product.

Both Gharad Chemicals and Reliance Industries refinery in Jamnagar have also bagged ICMAs award for excellence in energy conservation and management. This award is mainly for various energy saving measures.

IOCs R&D centre, Faridabad, has been conferred with ICMA award for excellence in chemical plant design and engineering.

Haldia Petrochemicals has made significant strides in improving performance in respect of health, safety and environment during the year. It has also developed green belt of approximately 90 hectare area around the Haldia complex. Presently approx. 1.3 lakh plants exist in the Haldias greenbelt area.
