A long waiting period running from 30 days to 60 days has seen aspiring Honda Activa customers shift to Bajaj and Hero Honda vehicles, which do not have such a frustrating queue for delivery. According to dealers, out of the 10 prospective Activa customers who walk into a dealership, only four hold on to their bookings, while the rest move to Bajaj or Hero Honda vehicles.

Despite repeated attempts, the company officials were not available for comment.

Right from the time Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) introduced its model Activa, there has been heavy rush for the product leading to a backlog. The waiting period in the initial days was as high as six months. But things changed for the better and the waiting period came down to less than a month.

The dealers said, the company has not despatched any model to the dealership points over the past 25 days. There has been an internal communication from the company stating that due to internal problems, the waiting period has to be enhanced to two months from the present level of less than a month.

"The backlog is very heavy in the case of Activa, and there is pressure with regard to other vehicles like Dio and Unicorn as well. The recently vehicle launched Shine is the only product available at dealerships with waiting period of less than three days to four days. At this point of time, dealerships have reasonable stock of Shine, but they fear that the waiting period would get extended if the company does not despatch the stock, they explained.

One of the dealership outlets has backlog of over 450 bookings for Activa alone, they added.
