The key achievements of 2009 include pragmatic recession management in China and India, no major terrorist attacks globally, President Obama sending friendly signals to Russia and some progress in efforts to contain global warming. The year was not without its failures, however. Afghanistan continues to bleed, and Iran, Venezuela and North Korea are still estranged. The goals for the year 2010 should be rapid economic recovery, reducing poverty line, resolving Afghanistan issue through talks, and fostering frugal living to reduce debts in the US, the UK, Spain and Greece.
