Big shoes to fill

Apropos of the interview For us, every customer is premium (FE, October 18), RS Kalsi, the new executive director of marketing & sales, Maruti Suzuki India, while briefly taking us through the companys three-decade-long journey, says he feels a deep sense of responsibility with the new position. It must be noted that Kalsi, who takes over from Mayank Pareek, has big shoes to fill. At the same time, Kalsis journey from an assistant manager to practically the head of Maruti's India operations is praiseworthy. Few reasons he might be the best person to head Maruti right now are that (1) he has worked at the shop floor, quality assurance, vehicle inspection, engineering and special projects; (2) he was instrumental in launching various initiatives such as Maruti finance, insurance, cashless transaction, Maruti Driving School and Maruti True Value; (3) he has worked as the national sales head; (4) he was associated with the spare part and accessory business of the company; and (5) being a Maruti veteran, he can connect even with the lowest level worker. We must appreciate the fact that he replied the journalist even on the CCI order and the recent Maruti recall. Not all business leaders are very forthcoming as far as such topics are concerned, especially while discussing it with the media. The readers, though, must have been wondering which is the soon-to-be-launched car the journalist talks about at the beginning of the story Is it a miss on the part of the journalist
