KVIC, Karnataka sets ambitious target

The Karnataka arm of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) plans to disburse Rs 13 crore towards promoting the setting up of khadi and village industry units in the state.

The commission has so far disbursed nearly Rs 2.56 crore to fund the setting up of 223 companies between March and December 2005, according to KVIC director G Guruprasanna. Speaking to FE, Mr Guruprasanna said that under its rural employment generation programme, the commission had funded 24,747 projects creating an additional employment for 4,71,458 workers during 200-04. Ninety five per cent of the projects were sustainable, he added.

The commission is expecting its flagship marketing initiative, the yearly state level exhibition to generate revenues of Rs 8 crore this year, he added. The exhibition will be held in the city during early February.
