Kirloskar Brothers (KBL), the largest manufacturer and exporter of pumps, valves and pumping systems in the country, is tapping the fire-fighting segment for growth.

KBL has been supplying fire protection pumps and packages for decades, but now wants to get into the fire protection business by forging relationships with business partners, said Pradeep Chapalgaonkar, VP, KBL. Fire-fighting is expected to emerge as one of the major sub-segments in India's rapidly growing building and construction and oil and gas sectors. The market size for fire fighting pumps and pumping systems is estimated to be Rs 350-400 crore per annum and KBL caters to 60% of the market. KBL acquired SPP Pumps, the world's largest fire fighting pump manufacturing company in 2002-03.

"The most important aspect of fire protection package is the reliability of the fire pumping system," he said here on Thursday as he flagged off an awareness campaign to sensitise industry on fire-fighting measures.
