Kerala Bankers To Strike Work

Bankers in Kerala will strike work on Wednesday in protest against the anti-bank youth stir over the loan-denied engineering student Rajanis suicide. Kerala, with Rs 90,988 crore deposits, tops the country in banking density.

If the violence and vandalism against banks continue in the present vein, there will be no option but to keep banks closed indefinitely, according to All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) joint general secretary KV Acharya. Not only bank equipment and employees, but also customers are in the first line of attack triggered by the sentiment unleashed by the Dalit girls suicide. A bank vehicle was torched, ATMs were destroyed and banks employees and customers were held up for long periods.
