Hindustan Lever Limiteds (HLL) regional office in Mumbai has successfully implemented Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), a tool for process excellence in its sales operations. And for this, the FMCG major has bagged TPM Level-One certification.

The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM), which accords TPM certification worldwide, has now certified that HLLs Mumbai regional office has achieved the Level-One certification.

HLL has already rolled out TPM in sales operations at its three regional offices Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata. These offices will come up for audit by JIPM in the coming years, informs an HLL spokesperson.

According to the HLL spokesperson, the company has introduced TPM in sales operations after deriving benefits from it in its manufacturing operations.

The objective of HLLs TPM initiative in sales operations is to become the best in-class service provider by reorienting office processes. TPM is usually applied in factories.

HLL, which has been practising TPM in manufacturing since 1994, became a pioneer in applying TPM to sales operations in 2002 in its Mumbai regional office, he says.

The successful implementation of TPM in the Mumbai regional office has brought about significant improvements.

Among them are improved delivery time to redistribution stockists, drastic reduction in damaged stocks, significant improvement in claims settlement, and in-transit stock display, he says.

Incidentally, HLL began implementing TPM in manufacturing since 1994. As on date, TPM is in different stages of implementation in 28 factories.

Four HLL factories have already received the TPM Consistency Award and 14 factories have been awarded the TPM Excellence Award, according to the HLL spokesperson.
