While the JD(S)-BJP coalition is based on the J&K model of CM by rotation, it would nevertheless follow the previous Congress-JD(S) formula on power sharing with the HD Kumaraswamy-led JD(S) keeping 18 portfolios leaving 16 for the saffron party.

BJP sources said the JD(S) was likely to hold the same portfolios that the Congress held during the Dharam Singh regime, with the remaining going to the BJP. Similarly, the parties had also agreed to have the Speakers post by rotation. While the current Speaker Krishna, who belonged to the JD(S), was expected to continue in that post for the next 20 months, a BJP nominee would be made the presiding officer after that, sources said.

BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, who would become deputy chief minister, would be the BJPs candidate for the chief ministers post.

But there was a hitch on stating whether the Kumaraswamy-led JD(S) would be part of the NDA. Because, there was still no clarity on what the JD (S) at the national level would decide, especially, with Deve Gowda having quit as party president expressing opposition to the alliance.

Meanwhile, Mr Kumaraswamy is scheduled to meet on Wednesday former prime minister AB Vajpayee, Opposition leader LK Advani, and BJP chief Rajnath Singh. He will also discuss the common minimum programme for the two parties.
