ITXC Bets Big On Indian Market

US-based ITXC Corp, a leading global wholesale VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) carrier, is eying big business in India and plans to hook international long distance (ILD) operators in India to double its business this year.

The company has already tied up with Data Access and is conducting trials with Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) while the discussions with Reliance Infocomm and Bharti Telesonic the other two ILD operators are in an advanced stage, ITXC executive vice president for product management John Landau told eFE on the sidelines of Supercomm 2003 being held in Delhi.

The company is currently routing only inbound calls to India but will soon start carrying outbound calls from VSNL.

We have made capital investment in terms of installing VoIP equipment at VSNL. This equipment will enble the VSNL infrastructure to transfer and terminate calls routed through VoIP network. The trials are being conducted and the commercial activities will start soon, said Mr Landou.

We plan to double our business in India in next one year, he said, adding that it was terminating more than a million minutes a day in India.
