Paul Aiello, CEO-designate, STAR, will be the acting CEO of India operations, STAR announced on Sunday.
Mukerjea, CEO, STAR group, India will leave by the end of January. Nair, CEO, STAR Entertainment, India, will leave by March-end.
Although Mukerjeas contract was until August 2008, he had been talking to group chief executive officer Michelle Guthrie (who has since resigned) about his desire to leave STAR since late last year.
It is believed that Mukerjea, who led the group since its early days of turmoil in India, had been upset since the March 2006 shake-up. That was the time when STAR groups operations in India were split into two units. Mukerjea was designated CEO of STAR Group India and Nair was promoted to the post of CEO of STAR Entertainment (from COO), giving him charge of almost 80% of the groups Indian operations.
Mukerjea was asked to handle new initiatives, which never took off apparently because funds were cleared.
It is believed that Nair is headed for NDTV to lead its new content venture with Bollywood producer-director Karan Johar.
