It Is Poor Transparency That Shows: Oppn Leader

The Kerala Governor's address to the Assembly did not go beyond a feeble justification of Asian Development Bank loan and the State's Global Investor Meet (GIM), according to Opposition leader V S Achuthananthan.

The claims that the State's fiscal position had improved was baseless, he alleged. It was the Governor's address that first shows the Antony government officially admitting that it has committed itself on the ADB loan. "So much for the UDF government's elaborate show of transparency," he told reporters after the Governor's address.

The fiscal position, according to the Opposition leader, has not improved. With hardly two months for the financial to wind up, the realisation of the Rs 4500-crore Annual Plan is hardly 50 per cent. Does that reflect a comfortable fiscal position, he asked.

Instead of getting bothered about this, the government was busy organising GIM, which smacks of possibility of investors with dubious precedents laying hands on public property, he alleged.

What was comic was the State government's lavishing of praise on the Centre, which had not allotted even a paise in relief to the State after two harsh seasons of drought and flood, the Opposition leader said.
