Intl footwear meet opens in Chennai today

The 26th International Footwear Conference, being organised by the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) is opening in Chennai on Friday.

CLE chairman Mukhtarul Amin said, The conference has come to India when the countrys footwear export is growing at over 18% a year. Footwear is the engine of growth of the leather industry and at $1,212 million it accounts for about 41% of the total leather trade. The target for 2010-11 is $4.5 billion. The total leather export is expected to be $6.98 billion.

There will be three guest speakers. Regina Canvas Teixeira, design specialist from Brazil, will speak on design inputs to design a comfort footwear.

The address of YH Whang, polymer specialist from South Korea, will be on the latest technology in sportswear.

G Sankar, chief executive- footwear business, Reliance Retail, will speak on the emerging retail trends in India and explain Reliances global footwear sourcing plan.

Executive director of CLE, K Elangovan will make a presentation on World footwear markets - analysing the current trends in production, import, exports and consumption.
