International Shimla summer festival from June 2

The five-day long International Shimla summer festival, a popular event during which Himachal Pradesh sees an increase in tourism, will start here from June 2, officials said.

Governor Prabha Rau will inaugurate the festival on June 2 which will continue till June 6, Deputy Commissioner A S Rathore told reporters.

Noted Bollywood playback singers Suresh Wadekar and Kunal Ganjawala would be the star attraction during the festival, to be organised at historic Ridge ground, Rathore said.

Apart from several local singers, Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi and playback singer Mahaluxmi Ayer would also perform during the various cultural programmes, he added.

The festival will conclude with a gala ceremony to be attended by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, he added.

International Shimla summer festival is being organized in the state capital, also known as queen of hills, since 1960s. It attracts a large number of national and international tourists.

Superintendent of Police R M Sharma said elaborate security arrangements have been made for the festival.
