Infy co-founder Gopalakrishnan is CIIs new president

Infosys co-founder and executive co-chairman S Gopalakrishnan has been elected as the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2013-14.

Gopalakrishnan, popularly known as Kris, would succeed Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej at the CII. The other members elected by CII are Ajay S Shriram, chairman and senior MD of DCM Shriram Consolidated (DSCL) as president designate and Sumit Mazumder, vice chairman and MD of TIL as the vice president.

Gopalakrishnan was among the seven co-founders led by N R Narayana Murthy who started Infosys in 1981. It is now the second-largest software services exporter from India with revenues in excess of $7 billion.

Gopalakrishnan has held multiple roles in Infosys across different business functions before taking over as the chief executive officer and managing director in July 2007.

He became the executive co-chairman of the company on August 21, 2011.

In January 2011, the government awarded Gopalakrishnan Padma Bhushan, the countrys third-highest civilian honor.

He is also the chairman of The Business Action for Sustainable Development 2012 (BASD), a coalition of international business groups .
