Indian Bank Net Up 114% To Rs 405 Cr

Indian Bank has posted a net profit of Rs 405.8 crore for the fiscal ending March 31, 2004, a rise of 114.8 per cent as compared to the preceding fiscals Rs 188.8 crore. The bank has attributed this rise to its increased focus on the retail segment of its business.

Operating profit up by 36 per cent to Rs 802.5 crore from Rs 590.3 crore in the preceding fiscal. Total income was Rs 3,414.3 crore (Rs 3,056.9 crore) while the expenditure totalled Rs 2,611.8 crore (Rs 2,466.7 crore). The capital adequacy ratio improved to 12.8 per cent as on March 31, 2004 from 10.85 per cent in the last fiscal.

Following computerisation of its businesses, the bank has reduced its non-performing assets (NPAs) ratio to 2.7 per cent. Gross business stood at Rs 45,379 crore with every employee raking in business worth Rs 205 lakh.
