India pushes for early conclusion of Doha Round

In a bid to break the Doha deadlock trade ministers from South Africa, China, Brazil and India met at Davos on Friday. The leaders reiterated their commitment to conclude Doha round at the earliest. Ministers noted that, under the existing draft modalities, developing countries would be required to offer a level of contribution without precedent by any member in any of the previous negotiating rounds, a commerce ministry statement said.

Commerce minister Anand Sharma and his counterparts stressed on the need to refrain from introducing any new issue under the ambit of the Doha round as it risks delaying an outcome.
