India on Saturday termed the missile tests by Pakistan as a “glaring example of missile proliferation” and wondered why it chose to carry out the launch at a time when tension along the border was high.

Reacting to the test-firing of a medium-range surface-to-surface missile ‘Hatf 5’, also known as ‘Ghauri’, official spokesperson of the external affairs ministry Nirupama Rao said, “The missile test is the fruit of Pakistan’s clandestinely acquired missile programme.”

The spokesperson said, “It is difficult to understand as to why Pakistan chose this moment to test the missile and deplete its stock.”
