Parkash Singh Badal, the chief minister of Punjab, inaugurated the first Punjab State Dental Conference held at the auditorium of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 on Friday evening.

The three-day conference was organised by the Punjab Civil Medical Services Dental Association and Punjab Dental Council.

While addressing the conference, Badal said, Health is a most important factor for the development of a state. Keeping in mind the importance of health, our government has time and again granted ample funds to the sector. The government had also released Rs 4.50 crore for the purchase of 90 dental chairs and 20 digital x-rays and other machine.

He further said, Dentistry today has evolved into a very refined specialised field and became an organised profession. To provide the latest technology and research work in the dental area, the government is ready to fund the foreign educational visits of six to seven dental doctors. I want that in future, people from US and UK should visit Punjab for their dental treatments.

Madan Mohan Mittal, Health and Family Welfare Minister said, Awareness of dental problems is very important and then comes the diagnoses and the treatment. I am happy to see the amount of awareness generated by the doctors amongst the people. The ministry has employed several dental surgeons in the region, now only dental chairs are remaining. However an order for the same has been placed.

Talking about the conference, Dr RS Mann, organising chairman and president, Punjab Dental Council said, It is a three day long conference, where renowned speakers from India and abroad shall interact to share their expertise and knowledge in the field. Over 600 delegates are expected to participate in the academic feast. We expect to scale the highest standards of performance with regard to oral health in Punjab state in the near future.

The guests of honour included Madan Mohan Mittal, Health and Family Welfare, cabinet minister, Chunni Lal Bhagat, Medical Education and Research, cabinet minister, Vinni Mahajan, principal secretary, Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education and Research and others.

While ending the first day of conference, the CM also presented the mementos as a token of appreciation to various dental surgeons from India and abroad for their outstanding performance in the field.
