Seven central trade unions have come out in support of a full-fledged Employment Guarantee Act, rejecting the National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill 2004, as an unacceptable dilution of the initial draft.

Left TUs, like Aituc, Citu, and Aicctu, alongwith BMS and Congress-affiliated Intuc, have called for amendments in the Bill, according to a joint statement released with the Institute for Human Development here on Tuesday. Among the signatories is economist Jean Dreze, who is also a member of the National Advisory Council to the United Progressive Alliance.

Terming the Bill as a violation of promises made by the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP), the TUs have listed 10 features for inclusion.
