The faculty council of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) has decided to challenge in the high court here the legality of the March 26 board meeting and the subsequent resolution framed by IIM-C board chairman YC Deveshwar, which agreed to the governments fee cut directive.

At a faculty council meeting on Monday, the members also decided to stick to last years fee structure for the first year MBA students in the current session. The move follows that of IIMs Bangalore and Indore, which have decided to stick to the old fee structure until the Supreme Court clarifies its stand on the issue in June.

The IIM-C will refund the excess amount to the students if the Supreme Court decides in favour of the proposed fee cut.

The IIM-C faculty has already petitioned the SC for permission to join the PIL filed by some alumni against the HRD ministrys fee cut decision.
