Hyundai Motor India has decided to take on competition in the C (A3) segment by introducing a cheaper variant of the Accent GLE at just over Rs 5 lakh. Confirming this, Hyundai Motor India president BVR Subbu said: The Accent GLE model will be available at around Rs 5.08 lakh for corporate individuals. We have allowed the dealers to sell the model at this price as we were getting many requests for the car.

Till now, the GLE model was catering mainly to government institutions, and was available at a price of Rs 4.93 lakh. The price of the GLE model for institutional sales has been increased to Rs 5.08 lakh. Hyundais move is prompted by the recent restructuring in the A3 segment with both Ford India and Maruti Udyog reducing the prices of their mid-size cars Ikon and Esteem respectively.

Maruti Udyog fired the first salvo in the A3 segment by reducing the price of the Esteem to Rs 4.29 lakh.

Ford followed it up by reducing Ikon prices to Rs 4.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for its LXi variant. Ford Flair has a retail tag of Rs 4.79 lakh, after the price reduction. Dealers have been sent out the notice regarding the price changes.

The largest selling Accent model, however, is the GVS variant, which is priced around Rs 5.8 lakh. There are six variants of the Accent, including the Viva model.
