Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Bang Bang’ released in more than 5,100 theatres across India and 50 other countries with record breaking number of screens in the US, UK and the Middle East. The major talking points have been whether it will deliver ‘blockbuster plus’ box office collections, matching (or even surpassing) the records of Hrithik’s previous release ‘Krrish 3’ and in the process obliterating anything from Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn or for that matter, Aamir Khan.
The ‘Bang Bang’ box office collections have already received a thunderous start with an almost 90-100% occupancy rate in multiplexes and with an a mammoth extended five-day weekend, it promises to be bumper days ahead for the Hrithik Roshan.
The Siddharth Anand-directed action-thriller hit theatres this Thursday along with Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Haider’.
Ashish Saksena, COO, Big Cinemas says ‘Bang Bang’ looks to be the biggest film of the year, both in terms of its look as well as the timing of the release.
The most important question now is whether Hrithik Roshan can power ‘Bang Bang’ to blockbuster level and break the box office collection records held by ‘Dhoom 3’ or break the record of his earlier release, ‘Krrish 3’.
The opening day box office collections record belongs to Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dhoom 3’, which made Rs 36.22 crore while SRK’s Chennai Express made Rs 33.12 crore and Salman’s hit movie ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ did Rs 32.93 crore. Hrithik’s ‘Krrish 3’ collected Rs 25.50 crore on the opening day.
This year, the two biggest films so far have been Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Singham Returns’. ‘Singham Returns’ had dethroned Salman’s ‘Kick’ in September to become highest opener with Rs 32.09 crore. The film also collected Rs 77.69 crore and Rs 112.59 crore as opening weekend and first week box office collections. The Ajay Devgn-starrer has collected Rs 140.62 crore in net collections till date.
‘Kick’ box office collection figures for the opening day, weekend, and week 1 stand at Rs 26.40 crore, Rs 83.83 crore and Rs 164.09 crore respectively. The film’s business in domestic has been Rs 231.85 crore.
Going back to opening weekend box office collection, ‘Dhoom 3’ still holds the records with Rs 107.61 crore. The Aamir khan-starrer managed to enter the Rs 100 crore club in just in three days. With such massive collections, the film toppled the previous leaders, SRK starrer ‘Chennai Express’ and Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Krrish 3’, to emerge as the new record holder.
Hrithik Roshan’s last film ‘Krrish 3’, which was released on November 1, 2014, collected Rs 72.8 on the opening weekend, Rs 166.52 crore in the first week with overall box office collections of Rs 244.92 crore (India business). The film continues to become the second biggest grosser of Bollywood, behind ‘Dhoom 3’ which has made more than Rs 500 crore in gross collections, including Rs 284.27 crore in India.
Hrithik Roshan has so far two movies in the Rs 100 crore club – Krrish 3 and Agneepath (released in 2012)
