The prestigious 1,200 mw (2X600 mw) Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project Khedar in district Hisar is set to break all records of speedy implementation. It is going to be completed well before the schedule said Sanjeev Kaushal, managing director of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL), after reviewing the progress of the project on Friday .

He said that an overall progress of 73.02% had already been achieved and in project engineering and procurement, a progress of 85.80% and 80.90% respectively, had been achieved. The project had achieved a record by completing the hydraulic test of the boiler of Unit -1 on March 1, 2009, in 24 months and 29 days-the fastest hydraulic test in India.

In the case of Unit-2 the hydraulic test was successfully completed on April 18, 2009, around four months before the original schedule, he added.

Giving details, he said with this landmark achievement the construction of the project would proceed at an accelerated pace and HPGCL would leave no stone unturned to achieve the next major milestone of boiler light up of Unit-1 in August 2009, two months ahead of schedule.

The first unit of this project would be commissioned before December 2009, and the second before March 2010. The project engineers and workers are working round the clock to achieve these targets, he added.

Speaking on the financial progress of the project, he said that overall expenditure of Rs 2,445 crore had so far been incurred on the project that is more than 56% of the total estimated cost of the project (Rs 4,297 crore).

Kaushal said that most of the major construction activities like boiler erection, turbine generator erection etc. were going on as per schedule or ahead of schedule.
