Hindustan Latex Posts Rs 15.5-cr Net Profit

Contraceptives and healthcare products major Hindustan Latex Ltd (HLL) has recorded its highest ever profit and turnover during the past fiscal. The state-run company has also established a strong presence in the rural market during the fiscal under review.

The companys net profit rose to Rs 15.46 crore during the fiscal, while its operating profit touched a peak of Rs 21.48 crore during 2001-02 posting a huge increase of 96 per cent, on a turnover of Rs 125.98 crore, registering an increase of 20 per cent over the previous fiscal. Exports during the period doubled to Rs 9.01 crore.

HLL, Asias largest manufacturer of condoms, also paid highest ever dividend to the government at Rs 1.89 crore. Presenting the dividend cheque to health minister Shatrughan Sinha in the Capital over the weekend, chairman and managing director G Raja Mohan said, the companys main plant in Thiruvananthapuram has been awarded ISO 14001 certification. The capacity utilisation at this plant has touched 103 per cent during the fiscal. HLL has another plant at Belgaum in Karnataka.

HLLs product range includes condoms, oral pills (both hormonal and non-hormonal blood transfusion bags), copper-Ts, hydrocephalus shunts and surgical sutures. HLLs products are exported to over 70 countries across the world, while in the domestic market ti has a strong retail network serving over 1,60,000 customers.
