The first encounter
It was year 1999 at the Ad Club Abby awards when I was in Mudra.
I had done one campaign which won two golds and one silver in the same category. As I was walking down the stage I saw a man standing in the middle of aisle with open arms who congratulated us with a warm hugthat was Piyush. It really came from the bottom of his heart.
Youngsters learn constantly by working with him. One learns by watching him look at the problem in his unique way. He has always insisted that we look at a product as if we owned it and needed to advertise for it.
Piyush just motivates you pointing you in the right direction, then lets you do your own stuff. He himself will give it a crack sometimes so that it becomes a healthy competition. I have not seen him lose his temper. He is a friend, philosopher and guide in the true sense.
It is never about being overshadowed by him, but whenever he is present in the meeting you see most of the clients a little awed and star-struck.
The State Bank of India campaign was a very bold campaign for its time. The Indian Premier League (IPL) launch campaign Karmayudh is also extremely memorable because nobody knew what IPL was going to be.
One good thing about Piyush is that he really has a big heart and he lets you do your own bit.
Thats again his bigheartedness because people sometime take advantage of it.
