A week before announcing the Q2 results, HCL Technologies said it has drawn up a new business strategy, which would focus on five new areas. HCL Technologies CEO Vineet Nayar said, ?We will invest in five new focus areas which include cloud computing, e-governance, mobility, smart grid and biometrics over the next five years.? The company plans to play on innovation by concentrating on these vertical specific areas.
Sensing competition from emerging geographies, Nayar termed China as a threat as well as opportunity for the Indian IT industry. ?We are ramping up headcount in China as we believe that it will be the lowest cost manpower supplier by 2015,? he said. Also, in a defensive strategy towards China, the company is planning to focus on smaller cities and exhaustive training in its centres. HCL also noted that Japan is a land of opportunity which will explode in a big way in response to opportunities from China. ?HCL needs to find a way to make money in China serving the Chinese companies, before the potential is utilised by others,? he added.
