The country?s fourth largest information technology (IT) software and services exporter HCL Technologies has entered the home automation market as part of which it will offer a solution to monitor security, surveillance, home control, energy management, media control and alarm management in homes and offices. The company plans to offer a home automation solution called Aegis that will empower users to control multiple appliances and devices, manage energy consumption and monitor security through a smartphone.

Priced at below $150 (Rs 6,600), the fully-bundled product will be able to control temperature of air conditioners, control sprinkler systems, dimmers, garage doors and motorised curtains. For this, HCL Tech is in talks with at least six original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to offer the productised version of Aegis which will be available by December and the actual services are expected to be rolled out by early next year.

?Through the home automation solution called Aegis, the user will be able to manage his home environment remotely. We are doing the technology and design engineering and will work with OEMs and system integrators by licensing the platform to them,? said Sandeep Kishore, executive vice-president, engineering and R&D services, HCL Technologies. The OEMs will further tap real estate players, builders, offices and utility companies.
